Tawali Resorts

Tawali Resort - Covered walkways link the main reception and dining areas with the 14 rooms themselves, which are huge. Two Queen size beds, air conditioning, ceiling fan, minibar, fridge, a well-appointed modern bathroom, and what may be the ultimate private balcony.

Overlooking the bay of reef-fringed, deep blue water, and framed by stands of tall tropical trees and the occasional fruit tree, is an outdoor setting that begs to be used to read, sip afternoon post-dive drinks or watch the resident pod of dolphins that seem to visit the bay every day.

Tawali is located in a secluded area of Milne Bay amongst local fishing villages and accessible only by boat. Built on a limestone bluff eighty feet above the water, Tawali offers guests a private retreat in which to enjoy the wonders of PNG. Local craftsmen constructed Tawali and you will find beautifully carved totems and woodwork in the spacious main lodge and throughout the resort. Some of these works of art took two years to complete and are unique to the Milne Bay culture. Covered walkways connect guest bungalows, which are complete with private balconies overlooking Hoia Bay. The air-conditioned bungalows are spacious with two queen beds and rosewood interiors that include desks, closets and lounge areas. Each room has a personal safe and coffee making facilities. Bathrooms are modern, completely tiled and have solar heated water.

Spirit of Niugini has accommodation for 16 passengers in 8 staterooms. Two double and two twin cabins on the main deck, 2 twin cabins on the forward lower deck and 2 more twin cabins on the aft lower deck, all with private head and shower. All rooms are fitted with standard queen or twin sized beds, carpeted and tastefully furnished. Facilities include piped-in music, reading lights, wardrobe, hair-dryer and plenty of storage space.

M/V Chertan is a 10 passenger live-aboard that operates in the Milne Bay area of Papua New Guinea. Each of the 5 staterooms has air conditioning, sink, 2 beds (bunk bed setup) and storage.

Diving Papua New Guinea - Milne Bay Diving Papua New Guinea - Milne Bay
It is one of the few places left in the world where a diver can see macro critters, pelagics, and big stuff, as well as fantastic soft and hard corals. The often misused and abused adjective “pristine” is actually appropriate here, due to low fishing pressure in the area in comparison to other areas of the Coral Triangle, no dynamite fishing, and thanks to a system implemented by dive resorts whereby local reef "owners" receiving a small fee for every diver that visits "their" reef. As a result elders make sure that the reefs are not fished.
Discovering Papua New Guinea Discovering Papua New Guinea
While divers and surfers gave envious comments about my upcoming adventure, most other people were full of warnings about the dangers of PNG, but it had been on my list of prime diving destinations for many years.
